Pattern with substance
Geometric designs suit wool particularly well: hand tufting gives crisp edges between colours, and the dense wool pile holds the dye deeply. This collection includes the Hive honeycomb designs and the Reef range, which lists a pile of 10 to 12 mm, in triangles, outlines, blocks, flags and zigzags. Many designs come in 120 x 170, 160 x 230 and 200 x 290 cm, and some in a matching 66 x 200 cm runner, so you can carry a pattern from the hall into the living room.
Styling geometric rugs
- Pick one colour from the rug for cushions or a throw to tie the room together.
- Keep other patterns in the room small-scale or plain.
- A strong geometric works well under a simple coffee table in a modern or mid-century room.
Questions about geometric wool rugs
Are geometric rugs still in style?
Geometric rugs remain a staple of modern and mid-century interiors, especially in warm tones such as ochre, terracotta and olive.
Do hand-tufted wool rugs shed?
Yes, at first. Regular suction-only vacuuming settles it over a few weeks.
Do you have matching runners?
Some designs, such as Hive and Reef Big Zig, also come as 66 x 200 cm runners. See wool runners.
