Moroccan-inspired pattern and texture

Berber rugs take their name from the Amazigh (Berber) peoples of Morocco, whose traditional rugs are known for cream grounds with dark diamond and line motifs, and for deep, shaggy wool piles made for cold mountain nights. Today "Berber" and "boho" describe that relaxed look: diamonds, arrows, criss-cross lines, fringed ends and textured or high-low pile.

Styling a boho rug

  • Pair it with natural materials: rattan, linen, terracotta pots and plants.
  • Layer a smaller Berber design over a jute rug for extra texture.
  • Fringed designs suit bedrooms and living rooms; in hallways the fringe can catch a vacuum. See fringed rugs.

Our designs are inspired by Berber rugs rather than made in Morocco; each product page tells you exactly how and where it was made.

Questions about boho & berber rugs

What is a Berber rug?

Traditionally, a rug made by the Amazigh (Berber) peoples of North Africa, often cream with dark geometric lines and diamonds. Our Berber-style rugs are inspired by that look.

Is a Moroccan rug the same as a Berber rug?

The terms overlap. Most rugs sold as Moroccan are in the Berber tradition: diamond patterns, cream grounds and a soft, often shaggy pile.

How do I stop a fringe tangling?

Vacuum across the rug and lift the vacuum before the fringe, or comb the fringe straight with your fingers. Never pull loose threads; trim them level instead.
