How the calculator works
- Living room: front legs on the rug needs a rug at least 30 cm longer than the sofa and 160 cm deep; all legs on needs about 60 cm longer than the sofa and 200 cm deep; a rug in front of the sofa should be no more than 30 cm shorter than the sofa.
- Bedroom: the rug runs across the lower two-thirds of the bed and shows about 40 cm or more each side.
- Dining: 60 cm of rug beyond the table on every side, so chairs stay on the rug when pulled out.
- Every result also leaves at least 20 cm of floor between the rug and the walls.
The calculator only suggests sizes we currently stock in at least three designs, with live counts and prices. Furniture on the plan is drawn at typical sizes and is approximate. What size rug do I need for my living room?
For the popular front-legs-on layout, choose a rug at least 30 cm longer than your sofa and about 160 cm deep. For many three-seaters that is 160 x 230 cm or 200 x 290 cm.
What size rug goes under a king size bed?
Usually 200 x 290 cm, laid across the lower two-thirds of the bed. 160 x 230 cm works in a smaller room but shows less rug at the sides.
How much bigger than the table should a dining rug be?
About 60 cm on every side, so a 160 x 90 cm table needs a rug of at least 280 x 210 cm.
