The rules behind it

  • Width: 20 to 30 cm narrower than the hall, leaving 10 to 15 cm of floor each side.
  • Length: 15 to 30 cm short of each end of the usable floor.
  • Doors: a door that swings into the hall needs its arc kept clear; we allow 80 cm per door, which you can adjust by measuring your own door.
  • If your hall is much longer than our longest runner, two matching runners with an even gap often look better.

Runner sizes and prices are live from our catalogue, and each result links to the product with that size selected. More detail in the hallway runner size guide.

Frequently asked questions

How wide should a hallway runner be?

About 20 to 30 cm narrower than the hall. A 95 cm hall suits a runner of roughly 65 to 75 cm.

How long should a hall runner be?

Long enough to leave 15 to 30 cm of floor at each end, after keeping door swings clear.

Should a runner go under the door?

Only if the door clears the runner and underlay comfortably. Otherwise keep the runner outside the door swing.
